This statement is derived from the W3C Accessibility Statement Generator Tool, but the tool was discovered thanks to Adrian Roselli’s statement.

Queer Winnipeg is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for individuals with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Queer Winnipeg is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

The colors used on this site (attempt to) conform to the Advanced Perception of Color Algorithm (APCA), instead of WCAG 2.2. This is an effort to address known issues with high-contrast pairings that pass WCAG2’s contrast check but which create halation or other other problematic effects for some users. contrast.tools is used for determining compliance.

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of any media we publish. Please let us know if you encounter accessibility barriers with what we’ve made:

Although there are other contact options (ex. Bluesky), we do not frequently monitor those platforms.

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

Section titled Compatibility%20with%20browsers%20and%20assistive%20technology

Queer Winnipeg is tested with:

  • Firefox with TalkBack on Android 15
  • Firefox with Orca on GNOME 48.1

Queer Winnipeg is not compatible with:

  • Internet Explorer: We don’t want to deal with the legacy baggage that comes with this browser: polyfills, no modern CSS (such as :has), and no modern JavaScript support.
  • Non-Baseline Newly Available targets: In other words, browsers that aren’t up-to-date. See Supported Browsers for a list. This is done for the same reason for avoiding Internet Explorer support; developing for modern features, without the legacy burden.

Accessibility of Queer Winnipeg relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML
  • WAI-ARIA
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • SVG

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

A best-case approach is done for cases for users who disable JavaScript. But, disabling JavaScript is highly discouraged, as various elements will break such as:

If your main concern is security, we recommend disabling JIT in your browser.

Queer Winnipeg assessed the accessibility of the website by the following approaches:
